The economic potential of the Airport
The development strategy of Tirgu-Mures Airport thought and implemented by the executive management is based on the rational exploitation of the fantastic tourism potential by charter flights, economic potential with rich natural resources of cheap labor and qualified by cargo flights. The Industrial Park near the airport of Tirgu-Mures, creates a center rich in commodities and industrial products which along with other agricultural products in the area and those already internationally recognized in the field of textile, leather, drugs and furniture should be distributed on the Romanian markets and worldwide.
By fair coordination between road transport ensured by placing at 100 meters of the European E 60 Road with rail provided by the railway Tirgu-Mures – Razboieni – positioned at 600 meters from the Airport, air transport at Tirgu-Mures has a great future in cargo flights. Vidrasau Platform Industrial Park of 20.1 ha is situated in the north of Tirgu-Mures Airport,and major interest expressed at the onset of the worldwide led investors has determined Mures County Council to provide a reserve of development of another 20 ha for the Industrial Park.

Located in north-central area of the country in the Carpathian Mountains, Mures County has a hilly and stepped plateau with a balanced structure. Hydrographic network is rich with unique elements in Europe. Diverse flora and fauna and the existence of numerous nature reserves, make this county a very important tourist area nationwide.
The deposits of methane gas (62.5% of the total national production is extracted from the county’s territory, the gas having a purity of 99.98%), chemical industry and the pharmaceutical industry (1st county in the production of pests), food industry – salt deposits, rocks for construction materials, large forests of deciduous and coniferous (occupy approx. 30% of the county), mineral springs chlorine and hydrographic network (crossed by Mures River) allowed a harmonious development of county’s economy.
Textile and footwear, clothing, leather and fur products, the industry of nonferrous metal, machinery, equipment and apparatus (production of machinery for the textile industry, production of wires and optical cables, production equipment and medical instruments) completes the county’s economic landscape.
Agricultural area represents 61% of the county’s total area. The main crops: cereals, industrial crops, vegetables, fruits, vines. Livestock is distinguished by the large number of animal species.
Road infrastructure includes 1941 km of public roads. European road E60 and future Transylvania Motorway connects to European transport corridors. Railway infrastructure includes 344 km of track, of which 86 km electrified * International Airport of Tirgu-Mures is located in a strategic location and serves four counties, with a population of approx. 2.2 million inhabitants.
Main tourist areas: Tirgu-Mures Medieval Fortress, Palace of Culture, the Teleki Library, the Zoo (the second largest in the country). Medieval Fortress Sighisoara- the only inhabited fortress in Europe. Sovata Spa Resort, located 56 km Airport Tirgu-Mures, famous for heliothermal Bear Lake, saltwater and curative qualities. The mountain villages of Mures Valley Stânceni, Lunca Bradului, Deda, Rastolita, Gurghiu offer opportunities for hiking and winter sports.
